Research

Social and Psychiatric Epidemiology

My research primarily concerns the epidemiology and etiology of mental disorders with a focus on eating disorders and body image concerns (e.g., body dysmorphic disorder, muscle dysmorphia). In particular, I use an intersectional framework to document mental health disparities and identify multilevel risk/protective factors faced by marginalized and minoritized groups. My ultimate goal is to inform prevention efforts and policy change that improves population-level mental health.

LGBTQ Health Across the Life Course

I aim to promote health equity for LGBTQ people, particularly as it relates to the prevention and treatment of mental disorders. To achieve this end, I am interested in using longitudinal study designs to identify intervention targets that promote positive mental health among LGBTQ people from youth to older age.

Systems Science Methods for Mental Health

I use systems science methods (e.g., agent-based modeling, system dynamics) to describe complex system behavior (e.g., nonlinearity, feedback loops) and identify leverage points to reduce mental health disparities facing marginalized populations.
